Pay Range:The pay range for a Histotechnologist is $22.00 to $42.22 and for a Medical Laboratory Technician is $20.00 to $34.39.

Benefits: All job offers will be based on a candidates skills, relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, and meet internal equity and market data requirements may be offered a job. Eligible candidates include regular, full-time or part-time employees working 20 or more hours per week. Job Responsibilities:

• In order to facilitate microscopic examination, human body fluids and tissues must be processed accordingly
• Perform technical responsibilities needed to create slides of surgical tissue for histological examination
• Employ a microtome to section the embedded tissue into small pieces, which can then be mounted onto microscope slides for closer evaluation
• Accomplish multiple immunohistochemistry procedures on paraffin-embedded tissue sections that underwent formalin fixation
• Once mounted, the sections can then undergo a range of routine staining procedures, such as hematoxylin and eosin staining, to highlight cellular structures and differentiate between various cell types
• Embedding specimens in the appropriate tissue medium guarantees optimal preservation and preparation for examination
• The reagents required for each procedure will vary, depending on the specific protocol and method being used
• Reporting test results in a timely and precise manner is important for providing patients with quality care
• Proper handling and maintenance of manual and automated equipment is essential for efficient operation and longevity
• Perform necessary equipment maintenance tasks as they become due and document these in a maintenance schedule
• Maintain an exact and timely equipment log data entry
• Establishing a quality control program can help to ensure that products meet the required specifications and standards
• The laboratory's quality control policies are in place to ensure that the equipment, reagents, and personnel meet the required standards and that the results obtained are accurate and reliable
• It is vital to follow the laboratory's standard operating procedures to ensure the validity and reliability of specimen testing
• By carefully controlling the test environment, removing distractions, and ensuring adequate preparation, testers can enhance the validity and precision of their results

Requirements:

• To be considered for the position, a candidate must possess an educational qualification in the field of Life Science at either Associate's or Bachelor's level. In addition, satisfying the regulations set forth by CLIA and State is mandatory
• To be considered, possessing ASCP certifications and histology expertise is desired
• No person or organization can operate a clinical laboratory in New York State without a valid license
• It is recommended to have background knowledge in histology, although it is not an essential criterion
• The ability to operate and maintain micrometers, microscopes, and other specialized laboratory equipment is necessary to ensure consistent quality results
• Being familiar with immunohistochemical techniques is advantageous
• Comfortably fitting in large as well as small samples
• The skill to accurately decipher all labels and accompanying material
• Highly systematic and thorough with an unwavering focus on details
• Proficiency in handling copious lab work is an advantage for job seekers
• Knowing laboratory standard operating procedures and safety regulations is a must for every laboratory researcher
• A standardized screening test for color vision needs to be aced
