Job Summary:

Your role as an assistant is key to supporting the daily operations of veterinarians and technicians. This will involve assisting in equipment upkeep, performing patient care tasks such as feeding, grooming, and exercise, ensuring sanitized surgical environments, carefully handling animals, and providing administrative support. Your assistance is essential in guaranteeing that all patients receive outstanding care and exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Express empathy and care to all animals in your care, regardless of their condition.
  • Initial patient intake begins with us providing a warm welcome to the patients and their owners. From there, we take them to the examination areas where we take their vital signs and record their weight.
  • Deliver patient triage, physical assessments, treatments, and medication dispensation while being closely supervised by licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs).
  • Assuage the fears of nervous pets by offering them gentle reassurance and a calming presence.
  • Give support to veterinarians and technicians in the administration of medicine and the handling of their patients.
  • Perform diagnostic assessments using lab analyses and radiography.
  • Operate and uphold medical tools such as fluid pumps, EKG devices, scales, and syringe pumps.
  • The proper filling, calculation, and administration of medications must be documented accurately, with controlled substances receiving particular attention to ensure their security.
  • Enforce the recommended nourishment regimens, keep track of food cravings, and report any unusual conditions or behavior.
  • Work to alleviate any anxieties or concerns that clients may have about leaving their pets in our care.
  • Offer guidance on selecting the right insurance plan and how to compare benefits and pricing.
  • Uphold hospital hygiene standards by performing daily maintenance, sterilizing equipment, and cleaning the building.
  • Give overnight patients a bathing and grooming service prior to their release.
  • It is imperative to obey safety and wellness protocols to guarantee a safer environment.
  • By following instructions clearly and precisely, you can minimize the risk of errors and reduce the need for rework.
  • Record all relevant medical details with great care and attention.
  • The importance of attendance at scheduled shifts cannot be overstated.
  • Assist the organization in attaining its goals by encouraging the use of hospital products and services.
  • The instructions provided by veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians are designed to promote healthy and happy pets, making it important to follow them accurately.
  • Fulfill the additional duties instructed by the superiors, which may consist of specialized tasks related to dentistry, surgery, emergency care, radiology, cardiology, neurology, or internal medicine.

Qualifications:

  • Completing high school or obtaining a GED can serve as a stepping stone towards a successful career
  • Earnest exposure to the veterinary field for at least a year, including successful implementation of all activities pertinent to the job description
  • Obtaining a certification in Veterinary Technology (VTNE) is preferred
  • Familiarity with surgical monitoring, radiology, oral health maintenance, and instruction of clients is a valuable asset for potential candidates
  • A person's employment qualifications may be measured by combining their formal education, relevant certifications and licenses, training courses taken, and past work experience

  • Effective hospital procedures, client care protocols, proficiency in hospital software usage, and a comprehensive understanding of veterinary terminology are all essential qualities for outstanding veterinary practice.
  • Employing a flexible approach to accommodate different schedules, including weekends and holidays.
  • Tasks may call for prolonged periods of being stationary or upright, depending on the allocated duty.
  • The kind of job that demands rigorous physical effort, involving tasks like lifting, cleaning, and constant movement, and occasionally requires one to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • Handling animals weighing up to 50 pounds may necessitate some level of physical exertion, as per certain job obligations.
