How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

The Specialist – Global Retirement provides essential support to the Delta Retirement team by ensuring accuracy and integrity of employee benefit information is provided timely to vendor partners, acting as a subject matter expert on Delta's defined contribution and defined benefit plans, and leading projects and initiatives related to the administration of the domestic retirement programs. This position will report to the General Manager of Global Retirement, Financial Wellbeing and Mobility.

Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):

  • Development and administration of employee benefit programs.
  • Perform functions related to the implementation of any new or changes/revisions to existing HR retirement policies and programs.
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to business units in the interpretation, implementation, and support of policies related to numerous benefit plans and programs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase employee understanding of retirement benefits through communications and employee information sessions as appropriate.
  • Perform continuous benchmarking and monitoring of the equity of current retirement programs within the airline industry and other Fortune 500 companies.
  • Conduct a variety of analytical functions to identify trends and prepare recommendations for management review and approval.
  • Participate on cross divisional teams, provide analytic support, and prepare documents to support retirement initiatives.
  • Responsible for monitoring planned compliance with ERISA, Department of Labor, Internal Revenue Service and state regulations by ensuring summary annual reports, annual funding notices, and summary plan descriptions are prepared and distributed before deadlines.
  • Work with vendor partners to ensure the efficient and accurate administration of benefit plans and ensure service level agreements are met.
  • Develop and review technical business requirements for programs/projects.
  • Develop and review employee communications on retirement plans.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in interpreting plan provisions and administrative procedures for both eligibility and benefit claims issues.
  • Leverage retirement program expertise to provide employee support of complex escalated questions/issues
  • Leveraging retirement program analytics proactively monitor and troubleshoot plan administration processes for timeliness and accuracy and partner with internal and external partners as necessary to resolve
  • Monitor IRC Section 415 and 401a(17) limits for Highly Compensated Employees and oversee associated plan changes and communications.
  • Partner with Financial Wellness team in support of employee engagement and support initiatives
  • Some travel is required.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • College degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Must have at least three years of relevant analytical or benefit administration experience.
  • Have strong analytical and problem solving skills and be able to align workflow with business needs.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Should demonstrate the ability to perform effectively under pressure with minimal supervision and within strict deadlines.
  • Should possess solid organizational and planning skills with high degree of self-discipline and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work with both internal and external customers/vendors.
  • Must be able to handle highly confidential data.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office suite and SAP.
  • Possess an overall knowledge of company procedures and policies.
  • Familiar with website development.
  • Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Previous project management experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA plans (defined benefit and defined contribution plans) and applicable Internal Revenue codes and legal requirements surrounding benefit plans preferred.
  • Experience in data analysis and reporting strongly preferred.
