    Job Description



    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Deaf and Hard of Hearing & Homebound Teacher provides assessment, consultation, technical assistance, and/or direct instruction for children and students who are deaf or hard of hearing and who are eligible for special education services. Remains knowledgeable of state and federal special education requirements.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education from an accredited college or university.

    Certifications:



    Texas Education Agency Certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing or the equivalent.

    Experience:

    Completion of student teaching in a deaf education class.

    Ability to select from a variety of communication modes to accommodate various communication styles and preferences.

    Other Requirements:

    Must have full range of motion in both hands.

    Ability to communicate effectively in sign language, orally and in writing.

    Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds, sit, walk, stand, drive and be mobile.

    Ability to travel throughout the district and city by means of private or public transportation.

    If driving personal (or private) vehicle, must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage.



    MAJOR DUTIES:



    Observe students referred for auditory impaired eligibility and/or placement into the Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

    Ensure all components of a Deaf and Hard of Hearing evaluation are completed.

    Follow up with ENT regarding Forms: Part A and Part B, to ensure a timely evaluation.

    Maintain caseload and meet required deadlines.

    Completes all federal and state mandated forms for each student.

    Uses appropriate testing materials to evaluate students' hearing loss levels and goal progress.

    Facilitates hearing aid, FM system and other assistive listening device use, maintenance, repair and replacement.

    Serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in determining auditory impaired eligibility.



    Travel to district campuses and student’s homes to provide instructional services to students with auditory impairments.



    Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that address the individual needs of students.



    Participate as a member of the Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee.



    Communicate proficiently in the preferred mode of communication of the student.



    Utilize specialized resource materials and visual, auditory, or tactile aides as appropriate to implement the student’s IEP.



    Confer with parents and staff members regarding the educational, social, personal and physical needs of students with auditory impairments.



    Work in cooperation with school staff to ensure full access for students who are deaf and hard of hearing or homebound in all programs in their educational settings including extracurricular activities.

    Assist in school personnel in enhancing student’s overall communication skills through knowledge of the use of interpreters and audiological management techniques.



    Perform other duties as assigned.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their regular educational requirements for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


    Education:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university



    Certifications:

    Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned

    Experience:

    At least one year of successful teacher experience in an accredited public or private school



    MAJOR DUTIES:



    Instructional Strategies



    1 Collect from the homebound students' regular teachers, tests and special projects and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned for each student.



    2. Coordinate the dissemination and collection of all student assignments, prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.



    3. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policy, and administrative guidelines.



    4. Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.



    5. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to accommodate curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individualized Education Program (IEP).



    6. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.



    7. Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.



    8. Return completed assignment, tests, and special projects to the homebound students' regular teachers for grading.



    9. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.



    10. Serve as a liaison between the student and home campus.



    11. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
