Job Description

Researches, develops and assists in the implementation of continuous improvement projects to the manufacturing process and provides input for new program start up.  Applies approved engineering policies and practices in an organization plant, to improve operating performance, reduce waste and delays and otherwise promote cost reductions and a high level of efficiency.   Activities involve production methods, equipment layout, material handling, personnel, equipment, and material utilization.  

Directly responsible for the production part conversion process and cost-effective methods in the metal stamping and machining operations to meet the requirements of the engineering product drawings.  Develop these process methods that meet all quality standards and refine the methods to optimize production profitability and on time delivery through the part production conversion sequence.  The end result is a quality product delivered to the customer’s satisfaction and meeting company’s KPIs.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for having input for quoting new jobs and engineering change orders.
  • Responsible for having input in trouble shooting current manufacturing processes to correct manufacturing and quality problems and to promote continuous improvement activity.
  • Provide technical guidance to manufacturing and quality assurance personnel.
  • Assists in implementing continuous improvement activities using Lean and Six Sigma tools.
  • Originates and applies new and unique engineering methods.
  • Provides leadership, technical advice, and counsel to other professionals.
  • Assists in the successful completion of pre-production programs from receipt of order until the job is production capable.
  • Assists in the preparation of quotes for new jobs and engineering change orders.
  • Implement manufacturing methods and processes into routers in the ERP system environment.
  • Determines what equipment, materials, tooling, methods of manufacture and facilities are required to produce a particular product in a scheduled quantity and at the lowest cost consistent with quality specifications.
  • Develops standardized work instruction, setup procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Develops tooling layouts for progressive/transfer stamping dies.
  • Troubleshoot progressive stamping dies for deep draw, nut blanks, washer, and shell type products.
  • Work directly with tool designers and product engineers to develop new and more efficient dies to replace aging tooling.
  • Must satisfy quality standards. 
  • Reduces cost of non-conformance through improvements at point of manufacturing (gauging, inspection aids, etc.).
  • Assures improvements will enhance our ability to exceed our customer's expectations.
  • Promotes safety of the workforce by recommending improvements with OSHA and EPA guidelines in mind.
  • Supervises associates in the completion of improvement activities.
  • Commits to the corporate goals, mission, and vision.
  • Submits at least one continuous improvement per quarter.

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • An associate degree or bachelor’s degree in engineering in one of the following fields: Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or an equivalent. 
  • Less than 2 years minimum of direct manufacturing method and machining operations
  • Individual must possess exceptional math and trigonometry skills as well as sound 3D CAD design skills preferred with SolidWorks.  
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing conversion processes. 
  • Good communication and organizational skills are necessary, and incumbent must be a team player with a willingness to share knowledge. 
  • Experience producing precision machined products in an environment and applicable aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO or IATF requirements and automotive requirements a plus.
