Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead with a safety-first mindset to ensure the well-being of all US Foods employees, promoting safety procedures, processes, and training to cultivate a safety-oriented warehouse culture.
  • Supervise and mentor warehouse associates through personalized coaching, policy and procedure training, assisting in problem resolution, and setting an example. Collaborate with Senior Warehouse Managers to discuss associate performance and develop improvement plans.
  • Foster a cohesive organization by maintaining open lines of communication and guiding the workforce to ensure efficient operations.
  • Direct and oversee the work and productivity of warehouse associates, promoting engagement, retention, and a culture aligned with US Foods' values.
  • Contribute to building high-performing teams by participating in the interviewing and hiring process for warehouse personnel, in coordination with Senior Warehouse Managers. Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching on productivity and safety objectives, and implement disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Lead and supervise associates to ensure accurate order fulfillment, staging, and loading onto trucks. Coordinate warehouse preparation for shipping or receiving during the next shift.
  • Monitor operational metrics, such as mis-picks and productivity reports, to ensure shift compliance with targets and preferred methods. Provide coaching and counseling to address performance issues.
  • During day shifts, assign dock locations for inbound carriers. Ensure products are stocked in the appropriate locations in compliance with food safety and FIFO processes and monitor replenishment activities to minimize shortages and prepare for the shipping shift. Oversee will call operations.
  • Maintain the physical condition and safety of the warehouse and equipment, including coordinating repair work orders and equipment requisitions.
  • Collaborate with the operations management team to identify inventory shrink sources and contribute to developing action plans. Analyze current operations and provide recommendations for expense and cost control improvements.
  • Regularly inspect the facility for safety hazards, taking corrective actions or reporting them to the safety manager as necessary. Maintain the warehouse and equipment in optimal condition.
  • Ensure compliance with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) requirements.
  • Effectively schedule working shifts using appropriate planning tools, such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Supervision

Directly supervise union and/or non-union warehouse on-floor associates (Loaders, Selectors, Receivers, Forklift drivers, etc.).

Relationships

Internal: Collaborate with warehouse leaders and coworkers, and interact with internal customers across departments (e.g., Sales).

External: N/A

Work Environment

Work occurs in normal warehouse environments, as well as cooler and freezer areas where temperatures may drop as low as -5 degrees.

Minimum Qualifications

Related Experience/Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in warehouse distribution.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in overseeing a workforce.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of warehouse operations, methods, and procedures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills.
  • Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, HACCP, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Travel

10% travel required, typically for mandatory meetings and/or training.

Education/Training

  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications:

  • HACCP certification a plus.
  • PCQI certification a plus.
