JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Energy Science and Power Systems (ESPS) Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a part-time undergraduate intern for Summer 2023. ARL/Penn State’s purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems to advance engineering and technology capabilities of the Navy, Department of Defense, and intelligence communities.


Job responsibilities:


The successful candidate will work with a small team of ARL engineers to design test hardware to support energy conversion component testing in prototype underwater engines. The effort will culminate in test support, data analysis, and reporting.


Desired skills and experience:



  • Design engineering (engineering sketches as well as computer aided design (CAD) tools)

  • Thermal analysis (thermodynamics, heat transfer)

  • Experience doing hands-on testing or research

  • Excellent written and verbal communication


Students pursuing a Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Chemical Engineering are encouraged to apply.


The successful candidate will be able to work 20-40 hours per week during the Summer semester.


This is a paid internship located in State College, PA. Relocation and housing are not provided.
