Sign Language Interpreter
Job Summary (Briefly describe what the position was created to accomplish):
Staff interpreter to facilitate communication in our community in many different life situations.
Major Responsibilities/Activities (List in order of importance the essential functions of the job, describe what must be accomplished, not how it must be done; include supervision or management responsibilities, quality, and quantity standards.
1. Set goals and objectives for interpreting and identify priorities as related to the CSD service goals and objectives.
a. Specify according to planning period time lines the Goals and Objectives for the year to the Program Director.
b. Participate in CSD staff meetings no less than 15% absenteeism.
c. Maintain level production hours, as defined by program needs.
d. Sets goals and objectives for PRN interpreting staff to enhance skills based on individual needs.
2. Participate in supervision no less than one time per month or as requested by the Program Director.
a. Cooperatively develop and follow a performance review format that includes a discussion of present progress and recommendations for future.
b. Make Director aware of need and availability of Interpreting resources and materials for maintaining quality and continuity of services.
c. Meets with Program Director to discuss progress with assigned PRN interpreting projects.
d. Supports the ongoing assignments for PRN interpreters when cancellations occur.
Essential Functions:
- Balance a client focused service culture with a culture where each employee assumes personal responsibility for agency financial viability and exercise the responsibilities of the position according to the budgetary constraints imposed by management.
- Act in unison with management and all other staff to achieve stated agency goals.
Minimum Requirements (Include education, experience, special skills and licenses or certifications required).
a. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred.
b. Certification from the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), OR equivalent. Or a candidate for certification.
c. A minimum of three (3) years experience interpreting in a community setting.
d. Completion of a formal interpreter training program or equivalent.
e. Fluent ASL and English language skills and ability to accurately interpret and convey higher-level content and concepts. Demonstrated ability to utilize a wide range of sign language systems.
f. Thorough knowledge and adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
g. Familiarity with, and experience in helping to build understanding of the Deaf culture.
h. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and be flexible ability to work independently and cooperatively.
Equipment Used:
Cell phones, video phones, desktop computer, laptop, scheduling software, and other virtual platforms (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Ring Central).

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
