FBI Special Agents apply their professional expertise and unique abilities continuously while going about their daily tasks. Given the pervasive use of technology in FBI operations, the Bureau brings in professionals from various IT backgrounds, including network information specialists, cybersecurity experts, computer scientists, digital forensics, and other technical specializations. As national security threats, such as cybercrimes, data theft, ransomware, and other related risks increase, the Bureau requires software engineering, network security, and computer science experts to assess these threats with a trained eye.

We provide our members with constant specialized training to improve their abilities and give them the opportunity to work on some of our most complex cases. Our investigations present unique challenges that cannot be replicated in the private sector.

SALARY LEVEL

  • $78,000.00 $153,000.00

Payment corresponds with experience and the geographic region of an employee.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • One must oblige to exacting ethical rules and guidelines.
  • The process of gaining a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance is demanding, and includes background checks, credit assessments, and a polygraph test.
  • Fulfill every physical fitness stipulation; completing the FBI Academy program in Quantico, VA is contingent upon the candidate's ability to maintain optimal physical fitness levels throughout the training period and beyond.
  • Excel in all medical evaluations, including visual and hearing capacity, to promptly pass the examination and continue on with eligibility.
  • Attend training for the Special Agent position as a trainee at the FBI Academy in Quantico for approximately 19 weeks.
  • The FBI Academy trains prospective Special Agents to be available for potential transfer to any of the FBI's 56 Field Offices or remote resident agencies, which includes San Juan, Puerto Rico. Returning to the starting office is an uncommon occurrence for Special Agents.
  • Be open-minded about accepting temporary work opportunities at any location across the globe, regardless of the duration or scope of work involved.
  • This job requires a minimum 50-hour work commitment per week, which may entail irregular working hours, on-call responsibilities, and being accessible during weekends and holidays.
  • Expressing a willingness to participate in arrests, serve legal warrants, and conduct raids, backed up by the necessary proficiencies and skills.

The Special Agent Selection System (SASS) is a complex and challenging evaluation process that every candidate wishing to become a Special Agent must go through. The process includes rigorous mental and physical testing that aims to select only the most qualified applicants. Normally, the process takes a year or longer to complete.

Key Requirments:

You must:

  • Identify oneself as a citizen of the United States under the law.
  • Candidates must be in their 23rd to 37th year of life at the time of appointment to be eligible.
  • Clear all the background checks and security screenings to obtain a clearance to view top-secret information.
  • All applications must have worked full-time without any significant breaks in their professional field for a minimum of four years unless permitted under the work experience waiver.

  • A candidate must have a valid driver's license, in addition to at least six months of driving experience.

Education Qualifications:

  • Applicants are required to hold a bachelor's or higher degree from a U.S.-accredited college or university, specifically in computer science, engineering, data science, information technology or comparable disciplines.
